First weddings held at Madison Central Library

Posted: Updated:
Madison (WKOW)-- Everybody sees weddings differently. For some it's an opportunity to practice time honored traditions, but for others it's a time to push the boundaries and do something that has never been done before.

In Madison, a handful of couples are taking the idea of experimentation to the next level by holding their weddings at the Madison Central Library. The idea may seem strange at first, but couples say once you see the space on the library's third floor, it resembles many of the popular wedding destinations in the city.

"It's just a beautiful area up there with a great view of the city," bride to be Laura Mericle says.

"We just really liked the feel of the space and the staff was so accommodating," groom to be Tim Kamps adds.

The cost to reserve the library location is $800 and officials say all of the money from weddings and special events goes right back into maintaining the space.

Library officials say any profits made in the future would likely go towards books or other materials in the library.

State law prevents the library from obtaining a liquor license.
But it's able to serve alcohol at weddings thanks to a partnership with a local caterer.
