Former cop pleads guilty to repeated sexual assault of a child

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A former Mt. Horeb police officer took a deal from prosecutors and pleaded guilty to repeated sexual assault of a child.

The Wisconsin State Journal reports prosecutors, as part of the deal, dismissed 32 other charges against Dennis Jenks and will only recommend a 15-year prison sentence, but the Dane County judge hearing the case could take the other charges into consideration when sentencing Jenks next month.

Jenks also faces a federal charge, but the State Journal reports his attorney told Judge Ellen Berz that federal prosecutors have agreed to drop that charge if Jenks receives at least 15 years in prison in the state case.

Authorities claim Jenks was having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old boy who had moved into his apartment.
