Veterans find jobs with Hiring Our Heroes

Posted: Updated:
EAU CLAIRE (WKOW) -- Eau Claire's National Guard Armory was filled with veterans and employers during the Third Annual Hiring of Heroes event on Tuesday.

Organizers say yesterday broke attendance records.

Our affiliates, WQOW, spoke with the veterans.  They said that they feel pressure to find a job, and the transition between service and civilian life is a tough one.  One man in the National Guard, Devin Myers, says "There are vets that I have known throughout the years that have been homeless that have been unemployed for extended periods, because of transition from military life to civilian life, as we call it."

Myers had to make the shift to civilian life quickly when he came home after sustaining a back injury.  Myers will graduate this May and say's he's already started sending out resumes. "We're just seeking the next adventure, just like the next person," he explains.
