ROCK COUNTY (WKOW) -- At approximately 7:20 Thursday morning, deputies from the Rock County Sheriff's Office, a trooper from Wisconsin State Patrol, Orfordville Fire and EMS, and Beloit EMS were all called to the scene of a single vehicle crash.
The crash happened on W. State Highway 81 near S. Olson Road. Emergency personnel arriving on scene found a pick-up truck had rolled, ejecting the driver. The 28-year-old male, of Beloit, was the only occupant of the truck. He was taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center where he was pronounced dead as a result of his injuries.
The initial investigation reveals the driver was westbound on 81, approaching Olson Road. After negotiating a curve, the truck entered the north gravel shoulder, over corrected and traveled across the eastbound lane, rolled in the south ditch, ejected the driver, and crashed into a tree. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt.
It is believed the wet conditions were a factor, but the crash remains under investigation.
State Highway 81 was closed for approximately one and a half hours as emergency personnel investigated and cleared the scene.
