UW-Parkside computers hacked

Posted: Updated:
KENOSHA (WKOW) -- Students who enrolled at UW Parkside could be a target of thieves.  Someone attacked the university's computer system.  The server they hacked contained social security numbers and personal information of students going all the way back to 2010.

According to our affiliate, WISN, investigators say the hackers were trying to steal credit and debit card information that was not on the server.

UW Parkside officials discovered the computer breach on March 16, but waited to notify students until investigators had a full picture of the attack.

The assistant chancellor says the university learned the virus was planted last November, but the thieves have hit a dead end.
