FORT MCCOY (WKOW) -- About 160 members of the Wisconsin National Guard are getting ready to ship out to Afghanistan.
Troops with the 829th Engineering Company were sent-off by friends and family with a ceremony Friday morning at Fort McCoy.
While this is the company's third deployment since 2003, it will be the first for about half of it's troops.
Specialist Michael Sippy of Bloomer says, "I'm actually really excited to serve my county and it's going to be a great experience, I've never been out of the united states before and what they're doing is what I like to do."
The unit's mission will be to help break down military bases as part of the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The unit is heading to Texas for some training before serving overseas until next spring.
