MADISON (WKOW) -- Some of the best spellers in Wisconsin competed in the Badger State Spelling Bee Saturday afternoon.
The event, sponsored by the Wisconsin State Journal, brings together 48 students from across the state at the bee held at Madison College. Those students were winners of their school and regional spelling bees.
The state champion will head to Washington, D.C. to participate in the annual Scripps National Spelling Bee later this year. The State Journal reports 7th grader Karelyn Malliet won. She's from Shawano Community Middle School.
