Partners reunited after on-duty shooting

Posted: Updated:
ANAHEIM (WKOW) -- After being shot in the line of duty earlier this month, 7-year-old K9 Officer Bruno is recovering, slowly but surely.
One thing that has definitely changed the outlook for the hero police dog was the reunion with his partner and his best friend.

Officer R.J. Young says he feared their reunion would never come when Bruno, a sable German shepard and 6 year veteran of the Anaheim Police Department, was shot in the face while chasing down a suspect during a gun fight.

"It was a horrific thing to watch," Officer Young says. "My entire world came crumbling down in the matter of a second."

A police escort shut down roads to clear the way to an animal hospital E.R. where Bruno had emergency surgery to remove the bullet from his lung. Now, he's recovering from a shattered jaw.

Officer Young says Bruno is his partner, and he's in it for the long haul.

"I know my dog. I know my partner. He's not going to let this get the best of him."
