McKee Road repairs could be coming this summer

Posted: Updated:
FITCHBURG (WKOW) -- Major repairs could soon be coming to a rough stretch of road in Fitchburg.

Dane County and the city of Fitchburg have reached a tentative agreement to reconstruct a stretch of McKee road between Seminole Highway and Fish Hatchery Road.

In addition to replacing the roadway, the project will also include a drainage system under the road to move water away. Freezing and thawing of water in recent years have caused heaving in the pavement, and the drainage system will prevent that in the future.

The city of Fitchburg is also seeking a large federal grant to construct a tunnel for where the Badger State Trail crosses the road. If the multi-million dollar grant comes through, the county and city would split the local cost.
If approved by the Dane County Board and Fitchburg Common Council, the $3 million dollar project would begin this summer and be completed before next winter.
