Final Four ticket sales steady, but plenty available

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Thousands of Badgers' fans are expected to follow the team to the Final Four this week and there are still tickets and hotel rooms available in Dallas for those still considering making a trip.

Adults and students who had season tickets to the Wisconsin home games got the first crack at tickets for the national semifinals and championship game this weekend, but any leftover tickets will be put on sale at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

UW Bookstore employee John Sheean used an outside source to secure his tickets.  Sheean says he couldn't pass up the opportunity to go to the Final Four even if it meant changing his weekend plans quite drastically.

"My wife and I are supposed to go out to New York on Friday to visit my son  and when we heard we had access to the tickets, he picked out the airfare and stuff so we're flying out of New York back to Dallas on Saturday morning to go to the game," said Sheean.

UW Senior Tom Halloin wants to make the trip to Dallas very badly, but still hasn't made up his mind.

"Should we skip class to go to the Final Four?  That's the issue," said Halloin on Library Mall Monday.  "Financially, yeah, I'd give up a lot of money to go."

"If they're thinking about going, today's the day to act," warned Ed Mani, President of Burkhalter Travel.  "Even tomorrow, prices will rise from an airfare standpoint.  So if you're gonna go, lock it in today."

Burkhalter Travel is offering a package deal for game tickets and a hotel room which runs $1,375 per person. Mani says demand is steady.

"Its probably ahead of the 2000 Final Four I would say, but not quite as much as a Rose Bowl," said Mani.

That's because people only have a few days to decide and plan, something that clearly isn't a concern for John Sheean.

"Some of the other events we had planned, they happen yearly, but obviously the Badgers getting the Final Four, we don't know you know, whether its a decade or whatever," said Sheean.

The UW Athletics Ticket Office still hasn't said exactly how many tickets will go on sale Tuesday morning, but they will be far cheaper than what's available on third-party sites like Stub Hub, where prices for the entire weekend's worth of games start at close to $700.
