Milwaukee grandma charged after 4-year-old accidentally shoots himself

Posted: Updated:
MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- A Milwaukee grandmother faces charges after her 4-year-old grandson accidentally shot himself.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Renee Smith, 48, was charged Tuesday with leaving a loaded handgun within his reach. Court documents say children found the gun under a bed last month. One of them gave it to Keyontist Moffet and the gun fired, hitting him in the head. The little boy is said to be in grave condition.

Smith told police she was in the room with the children at the time, but didn't see anyone holding a gun before it was fired. She has an initial hearing Thursday.
