UPDATE: Badger fans take over Dallas for the Final Four

Posted: Updated:
DALLAS (WKOW) -- Some Wisconsin basketball fans staying at the team hotel got a rare treat Thursday morning.

As they crowded around a Final Four merchandise table at the Hilton Anatole, the players and coaches they came here to see gathered in the lobby to make their first trip to AT&T Stadium.

"I couldn't believe that not only are we in the same city as them, but besides that, in the same hotel.  Come on, I never thought that was gonna happen," said Jeremy Clussman of Appleton, who just happened to be attending a pharmaceutical sales conference at the Hilton Anatole this week.

Clussman even got a few extra perks, including pictures with Coach Bo Ryan and Senior Guard Ben Brust.  But Clussman is scheduled to leave town before the games begin.  He tried talking to his wife into letting him stay.

"Well, I think what I did is I asked her how much it was gonna be per ticket. You know, how much is too much?  And her response kind of told me how that was gonna go," said Clussman, who will indeed be heading home.

But the fans who are here on purpose are pumped for the week ahead. Aaron Voegely and his wife arrived at the hotel at 10:00 a.m., after a 14-hour road trip through the night from Madison.

"Based on the drive down last night there were a lot of cars from Wisconsin riding with us so I think we'll have a really good showing," said Voegely.

Each Final Four team has a North Texas ambassador assigned to them.  Wisconsin's is Mike Leathers. He says the Badgers will have the most fan support of any team here.  But has Dallas stocked up on enough beer for Badgers fans?

"I hope they have and we are having trouble finding cheese curds, especially fresh ones that squeak from what I understand," said Leathers.

DALLAS (WKOW) -- Badgers' fans are already out in full force in Texas as they prepare for the Final Four this weekend.  Some of them were even lucky enough to meet the players and coaches Thursday morning.

The Hilton Anatole is the Wisconsin team hotel and hundreds of their fans are staying there as well.  A handful of supporters that were in the lobby around 11:00 a.m. saw the players and coaches gather just before leaving for AT&T Stadium for the day.  A few fortunate fans even got to have their picture taken with Coach Bo Ryan.

Others crowded around the Final Four merchandise table to buy a few more shirts before Saturday's semifinal matchup against Kentucky.

Each team here has a host ambassador assigned to them and Wisconsin's is very impressed with what he's seen so far.  Mike Leathers says it looks like Wisconsin fans are going to outnumber supporters from the other schools this weekend.

Greg Neumann is in Dallas all weekend and will have much more on this story on 27 News at 5 and 6.
