Governor says he'll review pay raises for prison wardens

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker says he is reviewing a decision by his administration to give pay raises to a group of Wisconsin state prison wardens without documenting a clear reason.

Walker said after a bill signing in Milwaukee on Thursday he was looking into the raises, some as high as 13 percent, for eight wardens.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel recently reported the Department of Corrections couldn't provide any documentation of a salary comparison that it said was done last year to justify those pay increases.

And the Journal Sentinel reported Friday that the agency responded to an open records request from the newspaper by releasing a memo on the salary comparison written last week, after the raises to $100,000 were already awarded.
