BELOIT (WKOW) -- The Beloit Fire Department reports a man was pulled from a burning car after a malfunction.

It happened on the 800 block of 8th Street in Beloit. The first arriving fire crews found a fully involved vehicle fire. One person was in the car at the time of the fire and was pulled from the car by a neighbor. The man in the car, Cody Fick, suffered burns to his airway and smoke inhalation. He was taken to UW Hospital in Madison.

Fire crews say they believe the fire started in the engine compartment and then spread to the passenger compartment of the car. The fire is under investigation, but crews say they believe it was accidental.

The vehicle is a total loss.
