Bowling to stop teen homelessness

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- People bowled for a good cause in Madison Sunday.

Dream Lanes hosted the MTI Bowl-a-Thon, along with Madison Teachers, Inc. The event raised money for the new Youth Services of Southern Wisconsin shelter for teens on Rimrock Road.

Youth Services Executive Director Casey Behrend says teen homlessness in Dane County is a growing problem.

"We know tonight in Dane County there are going to be over 200 young people, ages 17 and under, who are going to be sleeping in the streets, in abandoned buildings, and in cars," Behrend tells 27 News.

Youth Services and Briarpatch work together to provide resources for teenagers who have no where else to go.
