DNR plans burns on southern Wisconsin land

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The Department of Natural Resources is getting ready to launch its spring burns on public lands across southern Wisconsin in the coming weeks.

The DNR typically conducts controlled burns each spring to limit exotic and unwanted brush that can crowd out native vegetation, stimulate grass growth, create pockets of open water for ducks and geese and improve habitat for upland nesting birds.

This year's burns are set to begin in April and continue into mid-May depending on the weather. Burns are set to take place in 20 counties.
