Gov. Walker signing heroin bills into law

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Gov. Scott Walker is signing seven anti-heroin bills at signing ceremonies across Wisconsin on Monday.

The sites include Marinette, Stevens Point, Eau Claire and Milwaukee.

All seven of the bills easily cleared the Legislature earlier this year with bipartisan support. They include a bill permitting all emergency responders with training to administer Narcan, a drug that counteracts heroin overdoses.

Another would guarantee a measure of immunity for anyone who calls 911 to report an overdose and a third bill would allow municipalities to hold prescription drug collection drives.

Those were all introduced by Rep. John Nygren, a Republican from Marinette, whose daughter has struggled with heroin addiction.
