Democrats ask Kramer to resign

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Democratic leaders in the State Assembly are calling for former majority leader Bill Kramer to resign.

This follows calls from Kramer's own party for him to leave his post.

Democrats sent a letter to Kramer, saying he's lost the respect and trust of his colleagues.

The lawmakers also sent a letter to Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, asking him to form an ethics committee that could reprimand or expel Kramer.

Republicans have also asked Kramer to resign, but they won't expel him from office.

This all comes in the wake of sexual assault and harassment allegations against the assemblyman.

Kramer's attorney says both democrats and republicans are ignoring his client's right to due process to score political points.

Kramer has said he will not run for re-election in November, but he will not resign.
