Microsoft no longer supporting Windows XP

MADISON (WKOW) -- After a 12 year run, Windows XP will no longer be supported as of Tuesday.

Users should receive an automatic notification if they have Windows XP.  Computers running it will still function, but they will not be compatible with devices like new cameras and printers.  They will also not be as safe from viruses and malware because Microsoft will no longer update the security software.

If you're looking to move away from Windows XP, but a new operating system or a computer.  The Best Buy Geek Squad says users should purchase Windows 8, though some older computers may not be able to use it.

Microsoft provides a free program on its website to diagnose if your computer is capable of running Windows 8.  Click here to go to the website.
