MILWAUKEE (WKOW) -- Milwaukee-area printing giant Quad/Graphics is acquiring one of its biggest competitors, announcing a $100 million deal to buy Brown Printing Co., of Minnesota.

Quad/Graphics is recognized as the largest printer of magazines and catalogs in North America, producing Time, Rolling Stone and the L.L. Bean catalog, along with many others.

The Sussex-based company has made eight acquisitions since 2010 as the printing industry has continued to consolidate.

The Journal Sentinel says Quad/Graphics employs nearly 7,000 people in Wisconsin and also operates across North and South America.

Brown Printing has facilities in Illinois and Pennsylvania and employs about 1,850. Publications printed by Brown include Esquire and Family Circle, as well as catalogs for Macy's and Saks Fifth Avenue.
