Faust signs contract with AHL's Albany Devils

Wisconsin senior defenseman Joe Faust (Bloomington, Minn.) has signed an Amateur Try Out contract with the AHL’s Albany Devils, the top minor league affiliate of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils. Drafted in the fourth round, Faust was chosen 114th overall by New Jersey in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
Faust, a 5-11 and 207-pound defenseman, finished his Badger career with six goals, 16 assists, 22 points and 46 penalty minutes in 122 games wearing the Cardinal and White sweater. Included in those numbers are game-winning goals against Ohio State and North Dakota. He finished his senior season with a career-high 14 points on two goals and 12 assists, nearly doubling the point total from his three previous seasons combined. He also added a Big Ten Third Star of the Week honor to his resume in early November after a four-point weekend against Lake Superior State.
A right-handed shot, Faust was part of two conference playoff championships at Wisconsin, helping the team to the 2013 WCHA Final Five championship, the last for UW in the league, as well as the 2014 Big Ten Tournament title, in the conference’s inaugural season.
“Joe Faust had his best year productivity-wise this year as a defenseman,” Wisconsin head coach Mike Eaves said. “He can really skate and he is really strong on his skates. That will help him play against big guys at the next level. I can’t overemphasize how skating will be his asset. He’s learned to have a good stick and defend well. He’s got a hard shot that became smarter. That is one of the reasons that he was able to put some points on the board. He’ll give himself a chance to play at the next level.”
A three-time Academic All-Big Ten and WCHA All-Academic selection, Faust came to Wisconsin directly from Bloomington-Jefferson High School.
Faust will graduate this summer with a degree in finance.
