Fire danger high in parts of southern Wisconsin

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The 2014 wildfire season is underway in Wisconsin and officials say the fire danger is high throughout southwest and west-central Wisconsin.
The Department of Natural Resources says we have all the right ingredients for fire weather: sustained winds, low humidity and warm temperatures.

The agency is suspending burning permits in some areas, so many people will have to wait to burn their leaves and brush.

"Right now, even though folks have been burning over the last couple days, with the weather that we are expected to have tomorrow, high winds, low humidity, warmer temperatures, fires that have been burning over the last couple of days could potentially reignite and start a wildfire. So go back and check those piles and make sure that those don't rekindle as well." said DNR wildland fire specialist Catherine Koele.
DNR officials recommend you also check with your local authorities for additional burning restrictions.
