UW Police close sex assault investigation

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A UW Police spokesperson says a nearly week-long sexual assault investigation has been closed.

"The victim is no longer cooperating with police and does not want to move forward," spokesperson Marc Lovicott tells 27 News.

Authorities initially described the incident as a sex assault early Sunday morning in a campus dormitory. Officials said a search for a suspect was taking place.

But days later, UW Police officials said the assault took place off campus, and the victim and suspect knew each other.

Lovicott tells 27 News the decision to drop the case is listed under the term "exceptionally," in coordination with uniform crime reporting requirements. He says such a classification is sometimes listed by other police agencies as "unfounded."

Lovicott says there's been no consideration of the offense of filing a false police report in this case.
