New Sauk Prairie hospital welcomes first baby

Posted: Updated:
PRAIRIE DU SAC (WKOW) -- The new Sauk Prairie hospital welcomed the first baby born in the new building on Friday.

Baby Landon was born just before 5:30 a.m. on Thursday morning at the hospital's new location in Prairie du Sac.

"This is very exciting for the staff," says Beth Martinka, the Birth Center & Women's Care Director. "To have the first baby born is a milestone for the hospital, and we're just happy to celebrate it."

To celebrate the event, the hospital invited some special guests to meet Landon on Friday afternoon. Vicki Olson was the first baby born at the old Sauk Prairie hospital when it first opened in 1956.

"I'm the first baby of the Sauk Prairie Hospital when it started, and now I'm passing the torch onto the very first one of this new building," says Olson.

Vicki and Landon also met the very last baby born at the old hospital. Colleen and Jeremy Neefe welcomed their daughter Lennon last week in the old building before the hospital moved.

Nearly 13,000 babies have been born at Sauk Prairie Hospital since 1956. The staff is excited to continue helping families welcome their newest additions in the new building.

"We are very fortunate to have this new space to do our jobs," says Martinka. "It's an exciting place to work and to be and to welcome new babies into the world."

The new hospital has larger rooms each equipped with state-of-the-art equipment so parents never have to be too far from their new babies. Other new features include a rehabilitation gym, more ICU rooms, and additional outpatient rooms.
