Janesville man enters race for retiring Sen. Cullen's Senate seat

Posted: Updated:
JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- A former campaign manager has announced he'll run for the state Senate seat held by retiring Senator Tim Cullen.

Austin Scieszinski says he will seek the Democratic nomination for the 15th State Senate District. Cullen, of Janesville, is retiring at the end of his current term. He first took office in 1974, serving for 12 years and was re-elected again in 2010.

Scieszinski's family runs a real estate investment agency and he previously worked as a legislative aid and campaign manager for Sen. Cullen's office.

Scieszinski says he wants to see a new generation of leadership in Madison.

"Our state’s Capitol has become a dysfunctional and fiercely partisan place,” Scieszinski said in a statement. “We must work to change the way the Capitol operates, but to do so, we cannot keep sending the same folks back to Madison. It is time to send a fresh face, a new generation of leader to the Legislature. If elected, I will work as a tireless advocate for the men and women of the 15th State Senate district, not as a hyper-partisan politician.”

According to dailykos.com, Democratic state Rep. Janis Ringhand has filed to enter the race for the 15th district and Rep. Andy Jorgensen, of Fort Atkinson, has also shown interest in running.
