Bad weather preventing return of Terrace chairs

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The UW-Madison Memorial Union's famous sunburst chairs are still noticeably absent from the Terrace.

Currently, the chairs are still in storage from the winter, and it will likely be at least another week before they return. Union officials say the long winter and inconsistent spring weather has prevented the chairs from being set up.

"We'd love to be able to say 'X day in April every year is going to be the return of the Terrace chairs,'" says Marc Kennedy, Communications Director for the Wisconsin Union. "Because Mother Nature doesn't cooperate, she decides basically when we get the Terrace chairs in and out. We're looking at when the weather is reasonably decent, and that's probably more than a week away."

The weather has also been preventing necessary preparations for the spring and summer seasons. The Terrace must be powerwashed before the chairs can be set up, but that can only happen once the temperature consistently remains above freezing.
