Slumberland store destroyed in Prairie du Chien Fire

Posted: Updated:
PRAIRIE DU CHIEN (WKOW) -- Firefighters spent much of the day Monday putting out hot spots from a massive fire in Prairie du Chien.

The fire started around seven Sunday night at the Slumberland store in the Blackhawk Junction Mall.

Eight fire departments, with more than 150 firefighters responded to the scene.
Fire officials say the blaze was contained to Slumberland, but it went up in flames fast.

Prairie du Chien Fire Chief Harry Remz  says, "I got here well before the trucks did and within about a minute, minute and a half the place was just full of smoke it was so black you couldn't even see inside anymore, so it went very fast."

The Slumberland store was destroyed in the fire, and about ten neighboring stores suffered smoke damage.
No one was injured, and the cause remains under investigation tonight.
