Results in for 2014 DNR Spring Hearing

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- The Department of Natural Resources says more than 7,000 people cast votes Monday night at the annual spring hearings held across the state by the Conservation Congress.

Attendees answered nearly 60 questions asking for their positions on a number of proposals.

One question asked whether the state should ban deer baiting and feeding statewide 10 days before and during the 9-day gun-deer season in November. Results show 3,639 people voted yes and 2,180 voted no.

Another hunting-related question asked voters whether they would approve a hunting season for tundra swans. 3,199 people voted no and 2,439 said yes.

Outdoor enthusiasts did approve plans to allow trolling statewide, lengthen the trout fishing season and consolidate hunting stamps into a single stamp and fishing stamps into a single stamp.

The results of the survey are not binding, but they do give the DNR an idea of what people want.
