MADISON (WKOW) -- The Madison Central Library expansion project received a prestigious award Tuesday.

It was named the Public Works Project of the Year for 2014.

The American Public Works Association announced the award Tuesday, putting the project in a very elite group.

Mayor Paul Soglin says it shows the great work the city engineering staff did.

The expansion features a three-story atrium, a new third floor with an art gallery, public meeting rooms, and an outdoor terrace.

It also offers dedicated spaces for children and teens, a coffee shop, and a high-tech media lab.

The buiding is LEED certified.
