Governor signs law prohibiting online advertising of adoptions

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Gov. Scott Walker has signed a bill prohibiting people from putting their child up for adoption online.

Current state law prohibits advertising children up for adoption through a range of mediums, including newspapers, radio and television. But the law did not previously address the internet.

The bill also requires parents who want to transfer their custodial powers to someone else for more than a year to go through a court review and prohibits custody transfers that don't comply with the Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children.

Walker signed the bipartisan measure Wednesday.
