Many gather at Holy Hill for Good Friday

Posted: Updated:
HARTFORD, Wis. (WKOW) -- People across the globe found different ways to celebrate Good Friday.

One of the biggest observances in southern Wisconsin was Holy Hill near Hartford. Nearly 1,000 people gathered there Friday for the observance.

Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki took a group around to 14 stations, in which the crucifixion of Jesus is remembered.

People who joined in the journey say it was a day to be with family and friends.

"It's a day we should take time, it's not about us, and what a more beautiful place than Holy Hill to experience that. You really can't go wrong with family, and especially during Easter time, family is really important to me," said Holy Hill visitor Ann Dettlaff.

Holy Hill was declared a Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians in the early 1900s, and in 2006, it was raised to the status of Minor Basilica.
