Security precautions begin at Boston Marathon

Posted: Updated:
BOSTON (WKOW) -- Thousands of runners and even more spectators are in Boston Monday morning for the 118th Boston Marathon.

This is the first Boston Marathon since the bombings last year that killed three people and injured more than 260 others.

On Sunday, there was an annual blessing of the runners.

Security and safety are the main concerns at this year's marathon.  There are around one-hundred cameras and around 4,000 police officers, including undercover ones.

Police are encouraging everyone to not bring strollers and backpacks in order to ease any concerns.   They say there's no specific threat against the race or city.  Authorities said the biggest concern is a copy-cat attack.
