Water main flushing begins in Madison

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Madison Water Utility's water main flushing program began on Monday.

During the warmer months, crews go from neighborhood to neighborhood flushing out sediment from the city's water mains.
The utility says the process can temporarily discolor your water, and if you see signs notifying you of the work in your area, you should wait until evening hours to do laundry or run the dishwasher, and make sure your water is clear first.

If your water is not clear, the utility says to simply run a faucet in your basement for a few minutes until it clears up.
