Capitols tender first defenseman

MADISON (WKOW) - The Madison Capitols have tendered their first defenseman. The club has landed 17-year-old Jalen Chatfield out of Ypsilanti, Mich.

Chatfield spent the 2013-14 season with the Belle Tire Under-18 Midget team out of Detroit. The 6'0", 175-pounder notched 11 goals and 15 assists last season. He had a team-best four game-winning goals. Capitols head coach Steve Miller was happy to add Chatfield to a roster that includes forwards Ryan Lohin and Sebastian Fuchs.

"Jalen is an elite skating defenseman with good puck skills. His ability to skate, combined with his puck skills and high hockey IQ allows him to provide offense from the back end. He sees the ice extremely well and makes good puck decisions. Defensively, he uses his good speed and mobility to shut down an attack quickly, taking away an opponent's time and space."
