Bicyclists break up fight on the Yahara River Bike Path

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- Two bicyclists came to the aid of a 60-year-old man late Monday morning.

The man was being punched by a friend.  The incident took place on the Yahara River Bike Path, under the E. Washington Avenue bridge.

Even after the victim lost consciousness, witnesses say the suspect continued to punch him in the head.  One of the bicyclists pulled the suspect away, while the other called 911.  Officers arrived and arrested 45-year-old David Hurley.

Both Hurley and the victim were intoxicated and told officers they were arguing over a woman.  The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment of head injuries.

Hurley was arrested for substantial battery.
