The Gift of Life, Tonight at 10

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) --- April is National Donate Life Month, a time to highlight the importance of organ donation.

Tonight on 27 News at 10, we'll introduce you to a local woman whose life was saved through the gift of a heart, and one little boy who will eventually need the same.

2-year-old Michael Dencker was born with a hole in his heart.

He's been through a number of open heart surgeries already and will one day need a heart transplant.

His mom, Katie, says it's been a long, hard battle for the entire family.

"It was horrible. There were many many nights just staring up at the ceiling thinking 'What's gonna happen? Is he gonna be with us? Is he not gonna make it?"

56-year old Carol Wright also knows the pain of a failing heart, but a donor saved her life.

"I came to this crossroad. I was either gonna have some hope, have some faith, have some trust, or I was not gonna make it. So I decided I was gonna live."

Meet Michael and Carol, fighters and survivors, tonight on 27 News at 10.
