MADISON (WKOW) -
Losing 11-1 to Monona Grove on Monday night had no hangover affect on the Madison West softball team. If anything it motivated the Regents to play its most impressive game of the year the next night. A strong pitching performance from Fiona Statz and some timely hitting allowed the Regents to upset Madison La Follette 5-4 on Tuesday night. West was not intimidated by defending Wisconsin Gatorade Player of the Year Nicole Newman, who was on the mound for the Lancers. Newman stuck out 18 Regent hitters, but West scored five runs on the future Drake University pitcher, which included a 3 RBI single by Haven Traore. Madison West improved to 2-4 on the season, while La Follette fell to 5-2, two days before it faces 5-0 Verona.
