Losing weight in a healthy way

MADISON (WKOW) -- Spring is here, and that means summer and swimsuit season are just around the corner. If you are thinking of how to shed some pounds, there are some easy ways to help you lose weight without putting your health at risk.

Krista Kohls, a Meriter dietitian, says having a balanced meal is important to lose weight in a healthy way.

"Including a carbohydrate, a protein, and lots of fruits and veggies," Kohls said. "You don't want to cut out large portions and large food groups, so going carb-free or less protein. You want to make sure you have a good balance."

Kohls said a balanced diet can help fill you up and keep you satisfied in the long run.

"Carbs are our body's main source of energy, so it's really important for our brain," Kohls said. "Providing all the vitamins and nutrients and energy we need."
