Madison College baseball preparing for postseason

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) - The Madison College baseball team started the season with a tough stretch of non-conference games. The overall record took a hit but head coach Mike Davenport was really just looking for growth. He's seen encouraging signs of late.

"We're giving ourselves a chance to win every game at this point. Just hoping to be clicking on all cylinders here come May 10th and 11th, I think is when our tournament starts."

For the WolfPack, the goal is always to make a deep run in the postseason. They did that a year ago. Madison College finished third in the nation. At 28-12 this season, the WolfPack have climbed back into the Top 20 rankings. Like most seasons, Davenport has had to heavily rebuild his starting lineup. He believes the group is starting to gel at the right time.

"I think we come in every year with just an understanding of regardless of what the overall record is that our job as coaches is to try to figure out who gives us the best chance at tournament time. I think this group has as good a chance as the past groups of clicking and figuring it out at tournament time."
