Thursday's statewide tornado drill a "go" despite rain

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A scheduled statewide tornado drill will go ahead Thursday despite cloudy skies and rain.

Officials with the National Weather Service (NWS), Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM), and the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association (WBA) met Thursday morning and determined the tornado drill would still take place because no severe weather was expected in Wisconsin.

NWS will issue a mock tornado watch for all of Wisconsin  at 1:00 p.m. A mock tornado warning will be issued at 1:45 p.m. and will last about one minute. The drill will end at 2:00 p.m.

Most local and state radio, TV and cable stations will be participating in the drill. The mock tornado watch and warning will also be issued over NOAA weather radios.

If you recieve 27 Storm Track Weather Alerts, you will also get a text alert about the statewide test.
