Sturgeon spawning beginning

Posted: Updated:
NEW LONDON (WKOW) -- It's spawning time for sturgeon in Wisconsin. A DNR biologist says spawning season was likely to start Thursday or Friday, with activity getting heavy by the weekend.

The fish spend most of the their lives in deep water, but they spawn in shallow areas. That draws a lot of people to the Wolf and Fox Rivers each year.

Volunteers called sturgeon guards will be along the rivers to make sure the fish aren't poached.
