Killed for declining date to prom?

Posted: Updated:
MILFORD, CT (WKOW) -- Authorities in Connecticut are investigating whether a 16-year-old girl was killed after declining to be a boy's date to prom.

Emergency crews were called to Jonathan Law High School in Milford, CT early Friday for the report of a stabbing.  Authorities say the teen was stabbed to death inside the building and they have a 16-year-old boy in custody.

Staff members and paramedics performed life-saving measures on the teen, but the girl later died at an area hospital.

Students describe an emotional scene with people crying as police and paramedics swarmed the school. The junior prom which was scheduled for Friday evening, has now been postponed.

Superintendent Elizabeth Feser identified the girl as Maren Sanchez.  The boy's name isn't being released due to juvenile offender laws.
