Riders remember hit-and run-victims

Posted: Updated:
JANESVILLE (WKOW) -- Motorcycle riders from all over Wisconsin are remembering two victims of last week's hit-and-run crash.

Wisconsin Sport Bike Riders organized a memorial ride Saturday in honor of 24-year-old Mitch Vance and 18-year-old Devin Julius who were killed last Sunday by a driver who fled the scene. Dozens of bikers rode from the Milwaukee area to the scene of the accident in Janesville where they were joined by local riders.

"When we heard about this tragic accident, we decided we wanted to pay our respects to the fallen riders," says Jose Massas, one of the ride organizers.

Today's ride was supposed to be Wisconsin Sport Bike Rider's spring kick-off in the Milwaukee area, but the group changed their route after hearing about the crash.

"We have a lot of people here, and ninety percent of the people don't even know the fallen riders," says Massas. "They're taking time out of their day--they could be doing other things--but they wanted to come here and pay their respects."

Friends of the victims say the support of the motorcycle community is comforting.

"It means a lot because you've got all this support," says Robert Campbell, a friend of Mitch Vance. "It's just nice to know that people will support you if something happens."

Authorities released information about the SUV suspected of being involved in the crash and received a tip Thursday morning. That information led to the arrest of 24-year-old Sambath Pal. He faces two charges of hit and run causing death.
