Hemer just hoping for a chance in the NFL

MADISON (WKOW) - The NFL Draft isn't everything when it comes to achieving the ultimate dream in football. The 2013 Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks proved that, as their roster was comprised of 21 undrafted players, each of whom played a role in bringing the Lombardi Trophy to Seattle. Former Badger defensive lineman Ethan Hemer doesn't know if his name will be called in the seven-round draft in two weeks, but like those 21 players in Seattle, he's just hoping for a chance.

"The big thing that's really stuck out to me during this process is you don't have to impress all 32 teams. You just have to impress one team at the right time and so hopefully there's that one team that's out there that's impressed enough with me to give me a shot," Hemer said.

In the weeks before the draft it's common for draft hopefuls to visit the facilities of interested NFL teams for interviews. Hemer has not met with any NFL teams, but he knows there is still some interest. Even if he does not get drafted, he'll have a chance to sign a free agent contract will a team and compete for a spot in training camp.

In the meantime, Hemer continues to workout. Life in the gym is not the most glorious aspect of being a football player, but something that is necessary.

"Anything worth having is going to be hard to get, so we all come in and do the work we need to do," Hemer said.
