Madison family displaced by duplex fire

MADISON (WKOW) -- A Madison family of six is displaced tonight after a second fire call to the duplex in the same day.

According to the Madison Fire Department, firefighters were called to the 3300 block of Prairie Road two separate times. The first call came around 2:00 p.m. Sunday when the glass fronting the gas fireplace shattered. Crews shut the gas line off to the fireplace but found that everything was normal. There was no fire reported fire damage.

At 6:46 p.m., neighbors reported hearing a smoke alarm and called 911. The family was not home at the time, but returned after neighbors called them about the fire. 

When firefighters arrived, smoke was coming from the front door and from the rear of the home. Crews were able to take out the fire, containing the fire damage to the kitchen. There was heavy smoke dame in much of the the two-story unit. 

No one was injured. Damages are estimated at $80,000. The cause remains under investigation.
