Authorities: Missing Pardeeville man's body found in Wi. River

Posted: Updated:
WISCONSIN DELLS (WKOW) -- Authorities say the body of a missing Pardeeville man was found Monday in the Wisconsin River in Wisconsin Dells, roughly thirty six hours after he ran from police officers, as they investigated a bar fight.

Officials say a crew working on the Kilbourn dam on the river searched waters Monday, and found the body of 21-year old Mitchel Blanchard.

Authorities began searching for Blanchard Sunday afternoon, after family members contacted them about his disappearance. Officials say a vest belonging to Blanchard was found near the river Sunday.

Wisconsin Dells Police Chief Jody Ward says officers made contact with Blanchard at bar time Sunday morning, after a 911 call was made to report a disturbance at Captain Brady's Showboat Saloon.

Ward says as officers tried to verify Blanchard's identify outside the bar, Blanchard ran away. Ward says officers pursued him, but discontinued the chase when Blanchard disappeared into a wooded section of land.

Ward says there was no indication Blanchard was headed to the river, at the time officers pursued him.

"You have to go through a wooded area and then across two parking lots to get to another wooded area that's adjacent to the river," Ward says.

Pardeeville United Methodist Church Pastor Norman Bude says Blanchard attended his sister's wedding Saturday, prior to Blanchard's brush with the law.

UPDATE (WKOW) --- Columbia County Sheriff Dennis Richards says around 12 p.m. Monday they found the body of Mitchel Blanchard in the waters near a dam.

Authorities say they found Blanchard's vest near the river on Sunday.

Wisconsin Dells Police say that officers were responding to a disturbance call at Captain Brady's Showboat Saloon and attempted to make contact with Blanchard.

As officers tried to speak with him Blanchard took off running and eventually disappeared into a wooded area.  Officers at that time did not know Blanchard was headed for the river.

More from the press conference coming.
