Local students omit "under God" from Pledge of Allegiance

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- At Madison East High School recently, a group of students twice omitted the words "under God" when saying the Pledge of Allegiance.

The school district says the pledge is offered on a daily basis, as required by law.  However, an East High student claims the pledge is not recited daily.  District spokeswoman, Rachel Strauch-Nelson, says the student is incorrect and, because it is state law, the Pledge of Allegiance is offered on a daily basis.

On one occasion in March as students recited the pledge, the words "under God" were skipped.  Another day they replaced "under God" with "under peace".
