One injured in turkey hunt shooting

Posted: Updated:
RUTLAND (WKOW) -- Dane County Sheriff's deputies were called to public hunting land on County Highway A near State Highway 14 just after 7:00 Thursday night.

The investigation reveals 46-year-old Robert Ruth and his 15-year-old daughter were turkey hunting, as was 50-year-old William Tepp, of Stoughton.  Neither party was aware the other was in the area.  Tepp fired at what he thought was a turkey, however, he struck Ruth from 50 yards away.

Tepp immediately rushed to Ruth's aid.  He was transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Tepp was arrested on a charge of endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon; booked and released.  The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is investigating.
