Mifflin Street Block Party not much of a problem anymore

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- It's the annual Mifflin Street Block Party but the crowds were hard to find on Saturday.

For decades, the annual celebration brought huge crowds to the downtown street, often getting out of hand. This year, Madison police say it was much calmer. As of 9 p.m. Saturday, police had only arrested one person and handed out a couple dozen tickets.

The city took a strong stance in 2013, hoping to put an end to the annual block party and step up enforcement. In 2012, police issued more than 500 citations, arresting more than 150. In 2013, only a handful were arrested.

Extra patrols will still be out on Saturday night just in case.
