Proposed regulations for rideshare companies introduced

Posted: Updated:
MADISON (WKOW) -- A city alder released his proposal to regulate ridesharing operations in Madison.

Scott Resnick introduced the legislation to the city council on Tuesday. It's designed to regulate companies like Lyft and Uber.

Right now, the city attorney's office says these businesses are operating illegally as taxis.

Among the requirements, rideshare companies and their vehicles will need to be licensed, they'll have to maintain an office in Madison and their drivers won't be able to pick up anyone hailing a cab.

The proposal will go through several city committees before going to the full council.
